Peter Bodenham
is a potter and visual artist. Training, BA Ceramics in the mid 1980’s at Camberwell School of Art. In the mid 1990’s completed an MA in Fine Art at UWIC, Cardiff. Lives and works in West Wales Cardigan. Currently Head of Ceramics Department at Coleg Sir Gar - Carmarthenshire College.
In 2009 Peter’s creative practice shifted from creating sculptures, interventions and site-specific installations to making utilitarian objects. This self-imposed creative challenge frames his current creative practice.
Ideas are drawn from and about the phenomenology of everyday objects and the museum artefact. Inspiration is often driven by journeys on foot through rural landscapes. Although Peter acknowledges the cultural distinctions between fine art, design and craft, his work often sits between these cultural traditions.
“I am fascinated by the meaning, function and value of fine art, design and hand crafted objects. Objects gather worlds around them and the context they are temporarily anchored too are equally fascinating. In essence I am a maker, and the objects and pots I make are the creative language I use”
