About
Peter Bodenham’s ceramic practice is rooted in the coastal landscape of West Wales, where ocean plastic, geological specimens and discarded ceramic fragments collected from the shoreline provide both material and conceptual starting points..
Through processes of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction, Bodenham transforms these found materials into mixed-media sculptural studies. These studies subsequently inform the development of thrown, extruded and reassembled ceramic vessels and wall-based works. His practice explores the materiality of clay and glaze through an interplay between geological matter, ceramic histories, and the processes of making, use and renewal.
Working with native clays and contrasting dry and glossy surfaces, he creates forms that occupy the space between utility and sculpture. His work examines the relationships between function, value and material transformation, reflecting on geological and cultural entropy within the context of the Anthropocene.
